Do you know the forms, requirements, and taxes required for a Resort Vacation in the Riviera Maya? There is a new tourist tax and new health declarations and requirements, luckily, many of these can be taken care of online before you go…if you know where to look. Here are six tips (with links!) to make your summer travel to Mexico smoother in 2021 during Covid.
Tip #1. Consider getting a covid test prior to departure. While this is NOT A REQUIREMENT for Mexico, it’s a good idea because you don’t want to travel while sick and risk getting stuck in a foreign country! It’s also good to be able to prove you don’t have Covid if anyone challenges you after an unfortunately timed sneeze or cough. 🙂 (also see #6 below)
Tip #2. Fill out the Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMME) also known as the Tourist Card, online prior to travel. You can also fill it out on the plane. Keep the bottom half as it’s needed for the departure flight! This is not a new requirement for Covid…it has always been around.
Tip #3. Pay the Mexico Tourist Tax, aka the VisiTax, ONLINE prior to your vacation and download the voucher to show at the airport prior to departure. If you forget to do this , you can purchase it at the airport. At the time of this writing, it cost 224MXN ($11.22) per person over 15 years of age. Bring cash. This one is new.
Tip #4. As soon as you check into your resort make an appointment to get a pre-departure Covid test. All air passengers coming to the United States, including U.S. citizens and fully vaccinated people, are required to have a negative COVID-19 test result no more than 3 days before travel or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 in the past 3 months before they board a flight to the United States.
Tip #5. When you get your negative Covid test results back fill out the Attestation form. This is a CDC requirement to get back into the US. Check your airline’s app to see if it can be uploaded directly. If you have access to a computer, you may be able to do it online. For example, here is the online form for Delta. If you can’t fill it out from the app or online have a printed copy of the results. MAKE SURE your name and birthday are EXACTLY as it appears on your passport. If the attestation form is not on the airline’s app, print the form and fill it out and bring with for departure.
Tip #6. On the morning of your departure (maximum 12 hours prior to departure) fill out the Mexico Health Questionnaire online. You can do this on your cell phone but I recommend creating an account prior to departure so you can do this easily from your cell phone. Just remember your email and password! While this is definitely a requirement for departure, it is not a bad idea to fill it out prior to your trip too.
I hope these tips make your vacation to Mexico smooth and stress free. You deserve a relaxing vacation, especially this year.
