On Monday officials in Cancun announced that ONLY tourists (hotel & resort guests) will be permitted to use the beaches in the region with the intention of limiting the number of people on the beaches.

According to The Riviera Maya Times, the announcement stated, “the restriction that was applied was in order to prevent people from meeting in the sandbanks and not respecting healthy distances, which would generate a greater number of cases; however, in the case of tourists, the entry can be better controlled [by the resorts and hotels].” The plan is to give only visitors staying at hotels and resorts access to beaches as part of an effort to ensure social distancing.

Earlier this month resorts in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Riviera Maya, Akumal & Tulum, opened back up — in limited capacities — thanks to orders from Quintana Roo governor Carlos Manuel Joaquin Gonzalez.
