Here are a few suggestions for things to pack for your all-inclusive resort vacation.

Always pack a change of clothes and swimsuit in your carry on if you get to the resort before check-in, they will allow you to enjoy the resort while your room is being prepared. Most check ins begin at 3:00 or 4:00 pm.

Pack at least two if not three or four bathing suites! Trust me one will not be enough between the ocean and the pool you will use all of them and they take time to dry out. Who wants to put on a wet bathing suite?

Men may want to consider long pants and closed toed shoes for dinner in the nicer À la carte restaurants. Check with your resort to see their specific dress code.

Here are low-cost items to consider. If you are worried about space in your suitcase most of these can be found at a local pharmacy or grocery store. Both Cancun and Playa del Carmen have a Wal-Mart!

  • Deflated pool float (they will inflate these at the resort)
  • Beach Towel clips
  • OTC medication. For example: pain reliever, Imodium, antiacid, Pepto, etc.
  • Sun protection including sunscreen, lip balm, hat & sunglasses
  • Mosquito repellant! OMG so important for night-time, outdoor, dining.

If I don’t use all of these items, and you don’t have room to pack them, consider giving them to a hotel employee (like the groundskeepers) with instructions to share as they see fit with other locals. If you are a Facebook user, you can check and see if your resort has a Fan page. Folks will often post the items they are leaving and where they can be found.

I hope these tips help – have fun on your vacation!
